Since the age of 14, the camera has assisted Carys’s artistic curiosities. Throughout her photographical journey Carys has worked in various fields, using the camera to explore her innate curiosity and sociability. Moving from a quiet Yorkshire village to London in 2013 was the making of her career thus-far.
In 2016, Carys completed a Ba (Hons) Documentary Photography and Photojournalism degree saw her achieve a First Class Honours result of 93%. During her time studying at the University of the Arts London she focused her documentary projects on religion, the homeless and hungry, LGBTQ+ movements and the criminal justice system. At the age of 20, Carys interacted with and photographed inmates inside prisons HMP Wormwood Scrubs and HMP Pentonville through her work with charitable organisation, User Voice. Only months after completion of her degree, at the age of 22, Carys returned to the university, this time as a Lecturer. Whilst simultaneously completing the Award for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education with Greenwich University.
Currently, Carys works as the Director for Media and Photography for arts/creative social enterprise ‘The Artist Asylum’. As for her photography work, she shoots events across London and further afield. Maintaining a personable approach, blending into new situations smoothly. Also working as a baby photographer, Carys captures precious moments with newborn babies in Chelsea & Westminster hospital, as well as within freelance positions. Carys has photographed a wide range of personal work, inclusive of areas such as wildlife, travel, abstract and portraiture. Her sights are set high as Carys is extremely passionate about photography and will accommodate any individual to the best of her ability.
